About Umang

Development of a Prosperous, Healthy and Democratic Society is impossible without education. Quality education is must for every child, irrespective of their region, cast, creed or economical status. To contribute in the field of quality education UMANG Pathshala is established at Gannor (Sonipat) region of Haryana.

With 2 teachers and 32 students, UMANG was started in 2012 at an orphanage home. At that time children’s behavior, personal hygiene and cleanliness of surrounding were prime focus. But the Orphanage administration didn’t like our work; hence we had to leave the place within a year.

In 2013 and 2014 our focus was on Dacot Community. Children of this community were helping hand for the family; they used to beg for oil on Tuesday and Saturday. Umang had started professional training of these children along with academics. Our efforts were aimed to make them self-dependable for surviving deferentially. Using the conventional methods of education, we could not succeed and children were admitted to normal schools.

Taking lesson from the three year experience we decided to move on different line, hence in 2015 UMANG started working as an alternative educational center. Later with a modified name UMANG Pathshala started at Balmiki Ashram Gannor. In initial year it was a girl’s only school but with cognizance to the feedback of society we shifted to co-education in 2016.

Moving a step ahead in 2017, Umang became a school for all. Children of any cast, religion, region, gender or economic status are allowed to take admission.

Indeed it was not a well planned endeavor, but we kept on learning consistently through experiences. Meanwhile new people and children associated and the fleet moved on. Umang, you see today is the outcome of the queries of students, teachers, parents and organizers.

Today Umang Pathshala has 130 children and 7 teachers. Leaving all the conventional methods of teaching we shifted to new teaching methodologies. Despite of classes we work in groups. These groups are formed keeping in view the pace of learning of children. The persistent and overall assessment is being done. At Umang most of the decisions are being taken by children and students together.
